New NIV Approved by AG Commission on Doctrinal Purity

I wrote that headline for those individuals who only read headlines and skip the rest of the article. In truth, that’s all there is to say. Our leadership did indeed study the newest version of the NIV before agreeing to renew their copyright with the publisher.  Here are  their words; “In general we find that the NIV 2010 is a doctrinally faithful translation of the Bible.  In many cases, it improves on the NIV 1984.” We may have wished for this information sooner but we can be assured the translation remains true to our position paper on Biblical inerrancy.   Please read...

Two critical questions….

…to help determine what a Biblical passage means. From my last blog we know that translation is a big deal. Once we’ve come to some agreement on the language, we MUST ask (at least) two critical questions to determine what the passage means for us. 1) What is the context? 2) What does the passage teach?
